Secure school protocol was enacted at Sacred Heart Academy in Marystown on Tuesday, Nov. 27, in response to a student in distress, according to an automated message sent to parents and guardians of students.
The message indicated both the RCMP and emergency personnel were at the school around 1:45 p.m.
“At no time was it believed the safety of our students was in jeopardy, that emergency personnel were able to provide assistance to the individual,” the message stated.
Students were dismissed from school at the scheduled time, the message indicated. The buses were boarded on a grade-by-grade basis, however.
In an email, Cheryl Gullage, communications manager with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School Board, confirmed for The Southern Gazette the protocol was used.
