Without rate mitigation, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro projects power rates would reach 22.89 cents per kWh by 2021, up from the current average rate of 12.26 cents.

It is great living in a country where we have freedom of speech — at least for now. I figured when the government runs out of items to tax, they will charge us five cents for each word we utter. I guess that I will get my five cents in before it happens.

When our lives seem to be good, along comes those bumps in the road that cause us headaches and disbelief. This is caused by government and those big companies who think that money is what brings happiness. It seems that the more they have, the more they want, and if that is all they have then they are going to have a pretty empty life.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, you turned out to be a disappointment also, for you are showing your greed, and by showing your greed you obviously do not care about the people of this province.

We, the people of this wonderful province of Newfoundland and Labrador, voted for whom we thought would take care of us and trusted them with our taxes to spend wisely on our behalf. The promises that were given and broken tells us that we made a mistake, and that promises should not be given unless they know for sure they will be kept.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, you turned out to be a disappointment also, for you are showing your greed, and by showing your greed you obviously do not care about the people of this province. I, like others, would like to know where you think the money is coming from with all those increases. What type of conscience do you have knowing that people will be cold this winter, starving or going without their meds while you are sleeping comfortably in your homes! I do not imagine that you all grew up with silver spoons in your mouths and if that is the case, then you should know what it is to struggle to survive.

I cannot understand why it is that all three parties in government are tight-lipped on this subject. First of all, they should remove the taxes on our heat, for that is a necessity in life and then put a stop to all of those increases if they care about this province like they say they do.

We can only stretch our income so far before it snaps apart. You are going to find this province like Gilligan’s Island one of these days with only a few of you left here, for the rest of us will be moved to a place where people matter.

It is time for all three parties to work together and not apart to help us. It does not matter what party you are, do what is right and in the name of the good Lord, stop blaming the government that was before you because all of you made mistakes. Now it is time to learn by them. Help us stay in this province and let us be proud of all parties in government.

I guess I used up more than five cents’ worth today.
